CompeteFor Industry Analysis: Medical

The CompeteFor Industry Analysis series continues this week with the spotlight falling on the health sector

Of all sectors, one which has possibly the greatest number of opportunities available for SMEs in particular is health, with up to 80% of NHS Supply Chain contracts going to small firms.

NHS is also under pressure to find £5bn of efficiency savings over this Parliament, meaning a real push towards contract innovation and value for money.

Expert Comment

“The Government and taxpayers have made the NHS their number one priority, with an extra £3.8bn investment next year – and £10bn over this Parliament. Tackling hospital deficits is therefore crucial so we’ve announced a series of measures to help hospitals improve their financial performance and balance their books.

“We have set up a £1.8bn transformation fund to help hospitals make this vital transition. To access this money, hospitals will have to deliver specific efficiency savings, such as ending outdated paper rotas, adopting smart procurement practices and bearing down on agency/locus spend.”
Jeremy Hunt MP, Health Secretary, Facebook announcement 15 January 2015
